The Lion Code Biosecurity, Hygiene and Security Short Course (Farm - for the Egg sector) is a practical, farm focused eLearning programme designed for anyone working with eggs – from front gate

to egg room. Built around real world experience on UK layer farms, the course brings together biosecurity, food hygiene and egg handling into one consistent, accessible training journey.

This course supports Lion Code requirements across Bands 1–3, while remaining relevant for all egg producers – including independent, farmgate and non Lion Code operations.

What the course covers:

The course content is structured to reflect real on-farm workflow and current risk, covering:

  • Poultry Diseases: Strategies for Avian Influenza and Salmonella

  • Understanding Biosecurity: Implementation and its importance-

  • Including Pest Activity and Control Measures

  • Equipping for Biosecurity: Essential Tools and Procurement

  • Personal Hygiene and PPE

  • Navigating COSHH: Safe Chemical Storage and Dilution Practices

  • Personal Hygiene, site Hygiene and PPE

  • Navigating Legislation and Disposal Standards

  • Compliance and Record Keeping

Together, these modules create a practical journey from the front gate through to the egg room, reinforcing how everyday actions affect bird health, egg safety and public health.
