On the 14th May 2020 the Livetec team were called to a farm in Nottingham for an outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium affecting over 34,000 broiler breeder hens.
The farm had five sheds, and after some analysis by the Livetec Operations team it was found that one of the five was infected. Salmonella Typhimurium is a disease that occurs frequently in poultry and can cause significant losses to industry and flock owners, with increased mortality, reduced growth and loss of egg production. It was decided that the infected shed should be depopulated, to reduce the risk of the disease spreading to the other sheds.
The Livetec Operations team proceeded with the operation with great care and attention to the welfare of the livestock, using their on-farm equipment and years of scientific know-how.
