Livetec has made a new version of its electronic Biosecurity Assessment Tool, eBAS, freely available to all poultry producers following the launch of Defra-funded poultry biosecurity reviews.
The funded reviews form part of the Animal Health and Welfare Pathway and are designed to provide eligible poultry keepers in England with practical, site-specific advice to help reduce disease risk.
Julian Sparrey, director at Livetec, says the reviews are a valuable opportunity for producers to strengthen their frontline defences against avian influenza and other disease risks.
“As a company, we’ve seen first-hand the impact disease outbreaks can have on farms, their animals and staff, and we strong support Defra’s initiative,” he says.
“By completing a detailed biosecurity assessment ahead of the vet visit, producers can build a clearer picture of their current biosecurity provision. eBAS can highlight where the business performs well, while also identifying vulnerabilities and potential risk areas.
“The assessment can then be shared with the vet to help facilitate focused conversations around the areas where support is needed the most.”
Mr Sparrey says eBAS does not replace the vet-led review, but gives both the vet and farm team a shared starting point.
Part of Livetec’s Livestock Protect platform, eBAS is tool that enables poultry producers to review their own biosecurity provision. It provides an overall biosecurity score, alongside individual scores for defined biosecurity zones.
The UK-focused assessment covers conceptual, structural and procedural biosecurity, including location, infrastructure and day-to-day farm practices.
Poultry producers can access the free single-site eBAS assessment by downloading the Livestock Protect mobile app, without needing access to the full Livestock Protect platform.
