A secondary premises in County Fermanagh was found to have fallen victim to non-notifiable avian influenza H6N1, on the 6th February 2020. The disease, which was rapidly spreading, was affecting over 19,000 brown breeder hens resident on site.
Upon arrival, the Livetec Operations team found that all three sheds on the farm had been infected due to the ease at which disease can be spread if biosecurity practises are not strictly followed. After a discussion between the parties involved a decision was made to depopulate the livestock in all three sheds. This decision took into account other outbreaks of disease in the local area.
The Livetec team used their own method of on-farm operations, supported by years of scientifically-backed research, to ensure the entire process was carried out as humanely and ethically as possible.
With outbreaks in several locations in the region it can be assumed that with a Livetec disease biosecurity and contingency plan, the risks of this continued outbreak could have been mitigated.
